Each year we welcome student interns into Whitson Engineers to work right alongside our team of professionals. We provide a comfortable environment, a warm welcome, and caring mentors who take a genuine interest in our interns’ future success.
Those accepted into the intern program work on a variety of current projects with the project teams, drawing on skills learned at school and acquiring new skills to help complete projects. Assignments are based on an intern’s skills and interests, with their mentors committed to making the experience challenging and enjoyable while working on real world engineering solutions.
We welcome applications from students who have completed at least two years of a civil engineering or land-surveying curriculum and/or have related experience. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D is desirable. Our interns are considered temporary, full-time employees.

Working for Whitson this summer was an invaluable opportunity to grow as a civil engineering student. I gained a lot of hands-on experience with ongoing projects, developing new skills in Civil3D and refining my interpersonal abilities. The guidance and mentorship from the entire team helped me build confidence in my professional abilities. Most of all, I loved working alongside a talented and supportive team, making my summer experience both educational and enjoyable.

Whitson Engineers has given me the best internship experience I could ever ask for. I have gained real-life experience working on projects both in the office and out in the field. Along with a professional work environment, I have had the benefit of working with some amazing people. The team in the WE office consists of some of the most caring and energetic individuals I have ever met. I always have an amazing time here, no matter who I talk to or work with. My internship at Whitson Engineers has been a huge learning experience where I have been able to grow greatly as a person and student. At Whitson, I was able to work alongside encouraging and helpful peers, who made me feel welcome into their community from the beginning. Whether it was playing hacky sack, softball, or watching soccer, I saw early on how well-bonded everyone was, and how fun of an environment the office is. Throughout my internship, I have been able to further develop my skills with Civil 3D and have grown more confident in my ability to use the program. I was able to complete various difficult tasks in the program and always learning something new. Through this, I have grown a deeper appreciation for the field and feel confident in my choice to further pursue Civil Engineering. I will always be grateful for my time at Whitson, and reflect on all the friends I’ve made, along with the countless skills I’ve learned.

I had a great time learning new things with Whitson Engineers in and out of the office. Whether it was learning a quicker way to complete a task in Civil 3D, or understanding how to properly set up a surveying instrument in the field, I always found myself enjoying the difficult yet rewarding process. My experience in the field also helped me gain a better understanding of the bigger picture behind a project that I was working on. Overall, I can definitely say that my time here was well spent, and I look forward to implementing the things I learned into my future studies in college.

Over the summer working for Whitson, I have gained a lot of valuable experience. Everyone here is extremely helpful and willing to share their knowledge. Whitson has also given me the opportunity to contribute to current projects and work with many of the engineers, while also getting the chance to go out in the field with the surveyors. Being able to connect what I do in the office with what I see in the field is a really cool experience.

When I first arrived at Whitson Engineers, I knew almost nothing about how a civil engineering firm works or even what they did. But every day, I learned something new, whether it was learning about a tool in AutoCad, performing a topographic survey, or just listening to people talk about projects on the phone. Receiving such hands-on experience and guidance really accelerated my learning and motivated me to keep pushing the limits so I can excel in the future.
