Whitson Engineers Announces the Retirement of Its Founder
Ken Whitson has recently retired, following completion of the firm's ownership transition. Ken founded the firm in 1979 in Carmel Valley and moved it to Monterey in 1988. Branch offices were later opened in Los Angeles and Santa Cruz Counties.
The firm received many awards under Ken's leadership. Some of these included CELSOC/ACEC Project of the Year Awards for Markham Ranch and Laguna Seca Raceway, Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Award for Small Business of the Year, and two separate engineering awards for the Carmel Route 1 Climbing Lane. In Santa Cruz County, the firm received the APWA Project of the Year Award for the East Cliff Drive Parkway Project. Other key projects he led for the firm included September Ranch (Carmel), Coast Ranch/Odello (Carmel) and San Juan Oaks (San Benito County).
Ken, along with his wife and business partner Eileen Hughes Whitson, have relocated to Santa Cruz, CA.
