Ryan began his internship after his junior year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Ryan met Rodney Trujillo at a Civil Engineering Career Fair and the firm set up an interview a couple months later. He joined the firm during the summer of 2013.
This was Ryan’s first engineering internship so he did not know what to expect. “Before working at Whitson Engineers I only knew what my classes taught me about engineering. Now how engineering firms operate and what kind of work takes place in the field of civil engineering.”
During his internship, Ryan was immersed in many different projects and enjoyed the variety each day. Projects ranged from waterline bypass and road segment additions to easement adjustments and slope analyses. He was also able to get some survey experience with construction staking and creating topographic maps. “My AutoCAD skills have improved dramatically and I am excited to use all that I have learned in my senior year.”
“Whitson was a great environment to work. Everyone was nice and was always willing to help with any questions I had. Whitson has a strong team that extends past just coworkers and whether it was working hard to get plans delivered in time or the softball team winning a championship in the Monterey Summer Socko League, everyone made me feel welcome and helped me have a fantastic summer in Monterey.”
