EAST CLIFF DRIVE PARKWAY PROJECT
The East Cliff Drive Parkway Project, from 32nd Avenue to 41st
Avenue in Santa Cruz, consists of two phases of work. The bluff wall portion
of the project is currently under construction and includes two sections of
colored, sculpted, concrete "soil-nail" walls (between 32nd Avenue
and 36th Avenue, and at the end of 41st Avenue) and two new access stairways
to the beach.
Whitson Engineers is preparing design plans for the second
phase of work, the upper bluff portion of the project. These parkway
improvements consist of an improved one-way road and bike lane, separate
pedestrian and bicycle paths, additional landscaping, new parking areas,
safety railings, and improvements to the small neighborhood park at 32nd
Avenue, including a new public restroom. Interpretive exhibits are also
included along this part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary
Scenic Trail as it proceeds through the Live Oak area between the cities of
Santa Cruz and Capitola.
